West Brom vs Bristol City prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-10-17 19:00.
Life after Steve Bruce’s departure couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for West Brom, who finally put an end to a nine-game winless run (D5, L4) by picking up only their second league win of this campaign in a 2-0 victory over Reading at the weekend. That result hauled West Brom out of the relegation zone, but interim manager Richard Beale knows the hard work has just begun, commenting after the game that they “need to get on a run and pick up points fast”.
Now looking for their first back-to-back wins since the end of last season, the Baggies have been fairly hard to beat this season despite their lowly position, with their eight league draws a league high heading into the round. That should give Beale something to build on as they now take aim at ending a four-game run without a win (D2, L2) at the Hawthorns, while the visit of Bristol City should provide a further source of encouragement, as West Brom have defeated the West Country side in ten of their last 12 league visits here (D1, L1).
Opponents Bristol City sit four points above their hosts having gone down 2-1 to Millwall last time out to register their fifth loss in seven matches (W1, D1). Boss Nigel Pearson bemoaned the fact that they conceded “two poor goals again”, going on to say that “we can't keep making those basic errors”. With six of the seven games in that recent run seeing the side to score first go on to win, Pearson will be keen to see his side cut out the errors and get off to a better start here.
History is definitely against them though, especially as each of their last three trips to West Brom (L3) already saw Bristol City down at the break by a multi-goal margin! That was also the case in their last away game this season, with that 3-0 defeat at Birmingham part of a run of three straight losses on their travels, which means no side has lost more Championship away games than their 12 in 2022.
Players to watch: West Brom’s Karlan Grant has scored in all his four Championship appearances against Bristol City, whose youthful Tommy Conway will want to get off to another bright start, with all of his eight senior goals coming before half-time.
Hot stat: Bristol City have seen over 2.5 goals in ten of their 15 Championship games this season, a league-high.
