Wigan Cardiff prediction 2022-10-08

Wigan vs Cardiff prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-10-07 14:00.
After a remarkable run of four-straight Championship away wins came to a crashing halt against Hull City in midweek (L 2-1), Wigan return to the DW Stadium seeking a first home league win of the season. Ahead of the round, Wigan are peculiarly the Championship’s best performing away side (W4, D1, L1), but the worst performing home side (D3, L2) and the only team in the second-tier without a league victory in front of their home crowd this season.

There’s perhaps more urgency than ever for the Latics to break their duck at home this season, knowing no Wigan side prior has ever started a league season with six winless home games. Maybe the visit of Cardiff will prove a timely one then, with Leam Richardson’s side getting the better of the Bluebirds in five of the last eight home league H2Hs (D2, L1).

The post-Steve Morison era has got off to a flying start, with caretaker boss Mark Hudson steadying the ship with four points across their last two games. Those points have proved crucial in propelling Cardiff into the relative safety of mid-table having been dropping alarmingly towards the clutches of relegation, and with Hudson given the go-ahead to add to his coaching staff, perhaps the permanent role is within reach.

After those two home matches to open his managerial campaign, a greater challenge now awaits Hudson on the road in what should prove to be a real test of both his, and his side’s mettle. Only Bristol City (11) have lost more Championship away games in 2022 than Cardiff’s ten, but with seven settled by just a single-goal margin, Cardiff have by no means been disgraced in defeat.

Players to watch: Will Keane has scored two of Wigan’s three home league goals this term and his last three goals anywhere have been game openers. Former Wigan stalwart Cédric Kipré returns to his old stomping ground walking a disciplinary tightrope with four yellow cards already this season, leaving him one away from suspension.

Hot stat: Four of Wigan’s five home league games this season have seen two or fewer goals.
