Wigan Luton prediction 2023-01-21

Wigan vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-01-20 15:00.
Back in Championship action, Wigan and Luton Town will clash for the third time in two weeks after doing battle in two hard-fought FA Cup clashes. Tuesday night’s replay at the DW Stadium in Wigan saw the Latics beaten by a 98th minute Luton winner to continue their miserable start to life under Kolo TourĂ©, failing to win any of their first eight games under the Ivorian’s leadership (D3, L5).

TourĂ© claimed Wigan’s ‘performances are getting better’ but results need to quickly follow suit as Wigan’s eight-match winless run across all competitions is their worst run since 2020. The home faithful are bound to be increasingly restless with the Latics rooted to the bottom of the table – albeit able to leave last place with victory here – and they lament the worst points return of any side in the division on home turf (nine).

Luton are not experiencing such struggles under their new manager, with Rob Edwards winning four of his first seven matches at the helm (D1, L2). Edwards praised the ‘character’ of his side to come from behind and secure progression, and he’ll now look to close the narrow gap to the play-off places that they began the round with.

Travelling away from Kenilworth Road has been the Hatters’ strong suit this term, with only automatic promotion-chasing Sheffield United winning more games on the road than Luton’s seven (D2, L4). Despite that, they are still two points worse off than at this stage last season when they went on to qualify for the play-offs, a feat Edwards will be looking to replicate if not eclipse in his first season at this level.

Players to watch: So often Wigan’s catalyst, Will Keane has had a direct hand in 13 of the Latics’ 27 goals in the Championship this term (G10, A3). Proving equally influential is Carlton Morris, who has had a hand in six goals since Edwards’ arrival (G3, A3).

Hot stat: Wigan have failed to lead any of their Championship home games at half-time this season (HT: D8, L6).
