Wigan vs Watford prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-10-28 14:00.
Three Championship defeats in a row have seen Wigan drop towards the Championship relegation zone at a rate of knots. Arguably the most concerning aspect of those losses for manager Leam Richardson is that his side blew 1-0 leads in two of them, and Wigan’s inability to hold on after scoring first is an issue that has plagued them all season long, winning just four of the nine league games in which they drew first blood (D2, L3).
You’d have to rewind to November 2020 for the last time Wigan lost four successive league games which bodes well ahead of the visit of Watford. The Latics are unbeaten in five of their last six home league H2Hs against the Hornets (W3, D2), but are struggling a little more at the DW Stadium this season, with just one home league win (D3, L4) ranking them as the worst performing Championship side on home turf.
If it’s any consolation for Wigan, the visit of Watford pits them up against one of the Championship’s worst performing away sides (W1, D4, L3). Having conceded three goals in their last two away league games (L2), it’s hard to see Watford making the trip north confident of returning with maximum points, but a 4-0 derby victory against Luton last time out will certainly have boosted morale.
New Hornets boss Slaven Bilić has endured a perfect split of results since his arrival (W3, L3), though none have been short of entertainment with all six witnessing at least three goals. The side scoring first went on to win in five of those six games, which perhaps places added importance on a fast start for a Watford side who have conceded a joint-league high three away goals in the opening ten minutes this season ahead of the round.
Players to watch: Nathan Broadhead has scored Wigan’s only goal of the game in his three scoring appearances this season, while Keinan Davis has scored in all three of Watford’s wins under Bilić so far, two of which arrived before the break.
Hot stat: Wigan have lost three of the five historical games (W1, D1) officiated by Matt Donohue.
