Wolfsburg Dortmund prediction 2024-02-17

Wolfsburg vs Dortmund prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-02-16 14:30.
Frustrating is perhaps the best word to sum up Wolfsburgā€™s 2024 so far, after they followed up four consecutive Bundesliga draws to begin the year with a 1-0 defeat against relegation-battling Union Berlin last Saturday. That run is part of their worst spell without victory under Niko Kovač (D4, L2), whose team find themselves nine points adrift of the European places and, perhaps more worryingly, only seven points above the bottom three heading into the weekend.

The Wolves are now just two games shy of their longest-ever winless start to a calendar year in the league (seven matches in 1998), while 23 points is their lowest tally at this stage since 2016/17 when they needed a play-off to stay in the top flight! Kovač will be hoping for a repeat of last seasonā€™s 2-0 H2H triumph over Borussia Dortmund to end his recent woes, although that remains their only victory in the last 17 H2Hs (D1, L15).

In almost complete contrast to their hosts, Dortmund have won all but one of their outings in 2024 (W4, D1), a sequence which includes an impressive four clean sheets, rounded off by a comprehensive 3-0 win over Freiburg last Friday. Granted, Edin Terzićā€™s men remain a staggering 15 points off the summit, but they can at the very least maintain their foothold in the top four with victory here.

The visitors look a decent bet to do exactly that as they travel following three straight Bundesliga away clean sheets (W2, D1), having only kept four successive league shutouts on their travels once, way back in 1994. Strengthening their hopes of equalling that record is a run of four wins ā€˜to nilā€™ across the last six away H2Hs, with each of those clean-sheet victories also seeing the Black and Yellows lead at half-time.

Players to watch: Lovro Majer has had a hand in three of Wolfsburgā€™s five goals so far in 2024 (G2, A1), but since arriving from Rennes, the Croatian has been on the winning side just once in three scoring appearances (D1, L1). Trying to outdo him will be Dortmundā€™s returning star Jadon Sancho, who has made an impressive four goal contributions (G1, A3) in his last four H2Hs against Wolfsburg.

Hot stat: Dortmund have lost just two of their six Bundesliga games when conceding first this campaign (W1, D3, L2).
