Zambia vs Tanzania prediction: AFRICA: Africa Cup of Nations betting tips on match 2024-01-20 17:00.
Zambia started their Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) campaign on the right foot with an early goal in their opener against DR Congo, but they were eventually forced to settle for a 1-1 draw. While that represents a solid start to the tournament, they must continue to wait for their first AFCON finals win since securing victory in the final of the 2012 edition.
Whilst it’s certainly a frustrating winless run at this level for Zambia, draws have dominated their results since, with six of their seven AFCON finals games finishing all square. That suggests they’re not too far away from getting back in the win column, and two victories from their last two meetings with Tanzania hints they could be an ideal opponent to end their AFCON drought against.
Their opponents faced a baptism of fire in their opening game as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Morocco, one of the pre-tournament favourites, and their endeavours weren’t helped by going down to ten men following Novatus Miroshi’s late sending off while the score was still 1-0. Head coach Adel Amrouche was subsequently forced to face the CAF Disciplinary Committee during the week to explain his public accusations that both the scheduling and refereeing appointments favoured the Moroccans.
Tanzania, who are making just their third appearance at the AFCON finals, are consequently still awaiting their first victory at the tournament and are also facing the prospect of losing four straight matches, with their most obvious issue being their inability to score enough goals. The Taifa Stars failed to score in any of their three recent losses, and haven’t netted more than a single goal in any of their last 13 matches!
Players to watch: Kings Kangwa’s opener against DR Congo means he has two goal contributions across his last four Zambia appearances, with both coming before half-time. Tanzania forward Simon Msuva, who started against Morocco, is one of the few survivors from the last H2H meeting in July 2017. He scored his side’s second goal in that 4-2 defeat.
Hot stat: Zambia failed to score in only one of their last nine meetings with Tanzania.
